Good job Virginia PD. Your incompetence allowed 32 kids to die. It's ok the flood of lawsuits will ferret out the good for nothing cops that were in charge today. It won't bring back those kids though. First in Columbine we saw fat assed cops shivering in fear while kids were killed. Today the cops did nothing. Didn't shut school down after first incident. The school (Dr. Charles W. Steger) says it did its duty and "emailed" a warning to students. Today Virginia failed its children. Here is a cell phone video taken by a student there. Notice and you won't hear not one siren from a cop, ambulance or even a chopper flying overhead.

Why didn't the 32, God rest their innocent souls, why didn't they jump the killer as a group. He was a young man not a professional mass killer of students. I have had guns pointed at me and right against my head, by Bad guys and Good guys. If I had felt that at anytime a trigger was going to be pulled I believe I would have done something. Was this same none self protective reflex these poor Angels lived through today, also experienced a thousands times by other innocents when the Nazis arrested entire cities? How many times in chat be it in a party, drunk, high etc. One forcefully exclaims what he or she would do when faced with a group live or die scenario. Did the girls that were murdered standing next to boys of same age maybe expect the boys to do something. almost 50 people not including the families and the future, where directly affected by this Demon. Yet no group of students 3, 5,10 attacked him.? I know this sounds harsh and judgmental, but considering the fucking cops didn't do a thing to bring him down. I suggest to the reader. That from here on all students be required to take during their college career. A Intensive self defense course provided by the college. I don't mean a lets scream and look scary commercial bullshit. I mean a training class that makes a girl and boy capable of literally disarming the killer. Forget the freaking cops look at all the training they have, didn't do a dam thing today. Its up to the person who that weapon be it a gun or knife, stick is aimed at to disarm the killer. My soul rips for the parents of these fallen Angels.

The legal precedents for the second amendment were English laws brought in during the 15TH and 16TH centuries! The second amendment is out-dated and needs to be done away with to lower the risk of unstable, dangerous individuals having access to lethal weapons. On a personal level, anyone who believes that a world where people are allowed to own guns is a safer place is a deluded hypocrite.

I would love to talk more about Britain's violent history after 1066, but I think that's too far off topic. Plus, calling us bloodthirsty is extremely hypocritical. I'm not going to deny the UK's ruthless imperialist past and, in terms of the Middle East, present, but the issue being discussed here is a domestic one, nothing to do (for once) with foreign policy. Furthermore, I must confess I don't know how big high schools in the US get, but if anyone's interested there are roughly 8 million people living in London. Anyway back to the subject - I deliberately presented statistics as a percentage, because then the literal number of people in the population becomes irrelevant. So let me break it down: For every 200 violent crimes in the US, 18 involve a firearm. For every 200 violent crimes in the UK, only one involves a firearm. Refer to my previous post for where I got these statistics from. As for gun crime soaring 35% (9,974 offences), that's a cynical way of reporting. The fact it has 'soared' 35% doesn't mean anything if the rate is low to begin with. Let me simplify: If one guy in a population of 200 gets shot one day, and two guys get shot the next day - gun crime has just soared by 100%! But that still means only 1% of the 200 strong population has been shot. My UK home office reported 10,979 firearm offences in 2005, so it quite honestly showed a rise since the BBC report Anthony found from 2003. The fact is, the Home Office base those statistics on reported crime. It's not hard, there are plenty of official channels for reporting crime - they're called cases and they're filed in big cabinets for people to count and everything. They even define what constitutes a violent crime with a firearm. They're not just plucked out of the ether. The other link helpfully provided by Anthony had this in the first sentence: "One in ten people in Britain have been affected by gun crime, or know someone who has in the past five years, a new survey shows." Great, well that's shocking. It takes into account the last five years and includes people who have had no direct contact with firearms. By that logic if my colleague says to me they once had a gun pointed at them in 2002, all of a sudden I become that one in ten that proves those shocking statistics are accurate. The last single horrific incident of mass murder with a firearm to occur in Britain was the Dunblane massacre in 1996, when a sicko called Thomas Hamilton, armed with four handguns, shot and killed 15 primary school children and their teacher before killing himself. At the time owning a handgun in Britain was legal provided you were a member of a certified gun club. Hamilton was a member of a gun club. The Dunblane massacre galvanised public opinion and the government into action on handguns, first of all by banning their ownership and use in the UK. Gun crime 'soared' by 40% at the time, because until they were banned it wasn't an offence to own one. Once they were, the regular brand of idiots who owned handguns were all of a sudden breaking the law. Gun crime is still an important issue facing UK authorities, granted, but at least we're not stooping to the criminal's level by allowing ordinary law-abiding people to own lethal weapons. Take the moral high ground and kill gun crime with outrage, education, and encouraging respect for human life - not with your own bullets.

Require certified psychological evaluations. Require a waiting period. I want all that. But I also want to respect the Constitution. There are no take-backsies -- the 2nd Amendment cannot be undone on a whim. The provision is there for US citizens to keep and bear arms. It always will be. Removing guns from law-abiding citizens, does indeed lower the chance for some "nutjob" snapping one day and going to shoot up a school. But if a determined murderer today had trouble getting a gun, he would take the means to get one illegally. He no longer cares about being law-abiding. Occurrences such as these school shootings are beyond tragic. But they obviously are not done by law-abiding citizens only because they have access to guns. A truly disturbed individual such as at the VTech tragedy would have merely found another means to the end. It boils down to this: when a criminal comes into your house, do you want to give him a stern talking to from behind a pillow your brandishing, or from behind a gun? "That will never happen to me," is not the appropriate answer.

last year that would have allowed students with concealed weapons
permits to carry their guns at schools was killed, with VA Tech
spokesman Larry Hincker heralding the move as action that would "help
parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus." "Isn't

faculty to carry guns on campus. And isn't it interesting that you
haven't read about any school or university shootings in Utah or Oregon?

And then went off on one about how British people lived thousands of years ago. 2. The numbers I offered have nothing to do with the population size. Eurojimmy is spot on. They were presented as percentages. As in, per hundred. Here's how percentages work: Example: You take a history test. The test has 100 questions, each correct answer is worth 1 point. You score 10 points out of a possible 100. As a percentage that works out as 10%. You take another history test. This test also has 100 questions, but this time each correct answer is worth 2 points. You score 20 points out of a possible 200. As a percentage that works out at 10%. The value of the questions has changed, and so has the number of points you scored, but as a percentage, your score has not. This is because you have scored ten points per hundred. That's why percentages are useful - it doesn't matter how big the numbers get because you can base the statistics on a per hundred basis. It's really not that complex. It allows people like me, who only managed a C in GCSE maths, to compare statistics between countries with 60 million people living in them, and countries with 250 million people living in them, and still produce valid conclusions. Anthony, by now you should know my stance on guns, I'll take my chances with the pillow thanks very much. But that is where subjective personal choice makes an entrance. If guns are taken from law abiding citizens, then only criminals will have them. and has anyone thought to try and estimate just how many guns there are in U.S.A? the only way to regulate would be to establish an Orwellian military rule. a camera in every room in every home, watched by the corrupt scum of the government [including sex with your spouse]. every one knows most murders are family to family . 2nd place? one crack dealer to another. student shootings? quite far down on the list. power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely.
