[Crowd, Chattering, Shouting]

Transylvania 1887

[Thunderclap]

[Moaning]

[Dr. Frankenstein] It's alive. It's alive. It's alive!

[Banging]

[Shouting continues]

[Mob Leader] There he is! Hit it again!

[Dracula] Success.

[Dr. Frankenstein] Oh, Count, it's just you.

[Dracula] I was beginning to lose faith, Victor. A pity your moment of triumph is being spoiled over a little thing like grave robbery.

[Dr. Frankenstein] Yes, yes. I must -- I must escape this place.

[Dracula] Where are you going to run, Victor? Your peculiar experiments have made you unwelcome in most of the civilized world.

[Dr. Frankenstein] I'll take him away, far away, where no one will ever find him.

[Dracula] Oh, no, Victor. The time has come ...

[Dr. Frankenstein] [Gasps]

[Dracula] for me to take command of him.

[Dr. Frankenstein] What are you saying?

[Dracula] Why do you think I brought you here, gave you this castle, equipped your laboratory?

[Dr. Frankenstein] You said you -- You said you believed in my work.

[Dracula] And I do. But now that it is, as you yourself have said, a triumph of science over humans, it must now serve my purpose.

[Dr. Frankenstein] What purpose?

[Thunderclap]

[All shouting]

[Mob Leader] [Laughs]

[Dr. Frankenstein] Good God. I would kill myself before helping in such a task.

[Moaning]

[Dracula] Feel free. I don't actually need you anymore, Victor. I just need him. He is the key.

[Dr. Frankenstein] I could never allow him to be used for such evil.

[Dracula] I could. In fact, my brides are insisting upon it.

[Frankenstein] [Groaning]

[Dr. Frankenstein] Igor? Help me!

[Igor] You have been so kind to me, Doctor. Caring, thoughtful, but he pays me.

[Thunderclap]

[Clanging]

[Dr. Frankenstein] Stay back!

[Dracula] You can't kill me, Victor.

[Groans]

[Dracula] I'm already dead.

[Igor] [Chuckles]

[Dracula] Screeching]

[Dr. Frankenstein] [Screaming]

[Frankenstein] [Roaring] [Grunting] [Growling]

[Dr. Frankenstein] [Moans]

[Shouting continues]

[Igor] [Chuckles]

[Frankenstein] [Grunting]

[Igor] Dr. Frankenstein!

[White-haired man] Look! It's headed for the windmill! Come on!

[Dracula] [Flesh stretching] [Screeching]

[Frankenstein] [Grunting]

[Shouting]

[Mob leader] Burn it! Burn it down!

[Shouts]

[All Cheering]

[Frankenstein] [Grunting]

[Electrical Crackling]

[Frankenstein] Why?

[Crowd] Yeah! [Shouting, Cheering stops]

[Frankenstein] Why?

[Screeching]

[Crowd] Vampires! Run! Run for your lives! [All Screaming]

[Frankenstein] Father?

[Wood creaking]

[Frankenstein] No!

[Dracula's Wives] [Women crying]

ONE YEAR LATER
PARIS

[Thunder Rumbling]

[Woman Screams]

[Sinister Laughter]

[Laughter continues]

[Bird twittering]

[Hyde] [Growl]

[Van Helsing] Evening.

[Mr. Hyde] You're a big one. You'll be hard to digest.

[Van Helsing] I'd hate to be such a nuisance.

[Hyde] [Laughs] [Low growl]

[Van Helsing] I missed you in London.

[Hyde] [Chuckles] No, you bloody did not. You got me good.

[Van Helsing] Dr. Jekyll, you're wanted by the Knights of the Holy Order ...

[Hyde] It's Mr. Hyde now.

[Van Helsing] for the murder of 12 men, six women, four --

[Hyde] Four children, three adults, and a rather nasty massacre of poultry. So, you're the great Van Helsing.

[Van Helsing] And you're a deranged psychopath.

[Hyde] We all have our little problems.

[Van Helsing] You know, my superiors would like for me to take you alive ...

[Hyde] [Belches]

[Van Helsing] ... so that they may extricate your better half.

[Hyde] [Grunts]

[Hyde] I bet they bloody would.

[Van Helsing] Personally, I'd rather just kill you and call it a day. But let's make it your decision, shall we?

[Hyde] Hmm, do let's. [Laughing]

[Door opens]

[Hyde] Here I come. Ready or not! [Shouting]

[Bell chimes]

[Hyde] The bell. The bell! [Laughing]

[Blades whirring]

[Hyde] [Grunting] Huh? [Screams] [Moaning] No, no, no. [Groaning]

[Van Helsing] I'll bet that's upsetting.

[Hyde] Ah, Paris! [Chuckling] Come here. I--I think you'll find the view over here rather spectacular. [Boisterous laughter] It's been a pleasure knowing you. Au revoir. [Grunts] [Groaning] No. No, no, no. [Groaning continues] My turn. [Screaming]

[Jekyll] Huh? [Screaming]

[Thud]

[Van Helsing] [Praying in Latin]

[People murmuring]

[Constable] Van Helsing! You murderer!

VATICAN CITY -- ROME

[Van Helsing] [Sighs] Bless me, Father, for I have --

[Cardinal] Sinned. Yes, I know. You're very good at that. You shattered the rose window.

[Van Helsing] Well, not to split hairs, but it was Mr. Hyde who did the shattering.

[Cardinal] Thirteenth century. Over 600 years old. I wish you a week in hell for that.

[Van Helsing] It would be a nice reprieve.

[Cardinal] Don't get me wrong. Your results are unquestionable, but your methods attract far too much attention. Wanted posters. We are not pleased.

[Van Helsing] Do you think I like being the most wanted man in Europe? Why don't you and the order do something about it?

[Cardinal] Because we do not exist.

[Van Helsing] Well, then neither do I.

[Cardinal] When we found you crawling up the steps of this church half-dead, it was clear to all of us that you had been sent to do God's work.

[Van Helsing] Why can't he do it himself?

[Cardinal] Don't blaspheme. You already lost your memory as a penance for past sins. If you wish to recover it, I suggest you continue to heed the call. Without us, the world would be in darkness. Governments and empires come and go, but we -- we have kept mankind safe since time immemorial. We are the last defense against evil, an evil that the rest of mankind has no idea it even exists. To you, these -- these monsters are just evil beings to be vanquished.

[Van Helsing] I'm the one left standing there when they die and become the men they once were.

[Cardinal] For you, my good son, this is all a test of faith. And now, we need you to go to the East. To the far side of Romania. An accursed land terrorized by all sorts of nightmarish creatures, lorded over by a certain Count Dracula.

[Van Helsing] Dracula?

[Cardinal] Yes. You've never faced one like this before. Our story begins 450 years ago when a Transylvanian knight named Valerious the Elder promised God that his family would never rest nor enter heaven until they vanquished Dracula from their line. They have not succeeded. And they are running out of family. His descendant, Voris Valerious, king of the Gypsies. He disappeared almost 12 months ago. His only son, Prince Velkan. And his daughter, Princess Anna. If the two of them are killed before Dracula's vanquished, nine generations of their family will never enter the gates of St. Peter. For more than four centuries, this family has defended our left flank. They gave their lives. We cannot let them slip into purgatory.

[Van Helsing] So you're sending me into hell.

[Cardinal] [Pats back] In a manner. Valerious the Elder left this here 400 years ago. We don't know its purpose. But he would not have left it lightly. The Latin inscription translates as, "In the name of God, open this door." There is an insignia. Yes, it matches your ring. I think that in Transylvania you may find the answer you seek.

[Man] Faster, please. Faster. Faster. Faster. Faster.

[Moaning]

[Van Helsing] Carl!

[Carl] Getting there. Ah, there you are. Well, did you bring Mr. Hyde back or did you kill him? You killed him, didn't you? That's why they get so annoyed. When they ask you to bring someone back, they don't mean as a corpse. Oh, all right. You're in a mood. Well, come on. I've got a few things that'll put the bit back in your mouth. Oh, any idiot can make a sword.

[Man] Hey.

[Carl] Oh, sorry, Father.

[Van Helsing] Come along, Carl.

[Carl] Here, take this. Rings of garlic. Holy water. Silver stake. Crucifix.

[Van Helsing] Why can't I have one of those?

[Carl] You've never gone after vampires before, now have you?

[Van Helsing] Vampires, gargoyles, warlocks, they're all the same. Best when cooked well.

[Carl] No, no, no, they're not all the same. A vampire is nothing like a warlock. My granny could kill a warlock.

[Van Helsing] [Chuckles] You've never even been out of the abbey. How do you know about vampires?

[Carl] I read. Ah, here's something new. Glycerine, 48.

[All gasp]

[Carl] Sorry. Sorry. Sorry.

[Man] What in the name of Allah is wrong with you?

[Carl] The air around here is thick with envy. Ah. This is my latest invention. It's gas-propelled. Capable of catapulting arrows in rapid succession at tremendous velocity. Just pull the trigger and hold on. I've heard the stories coming out of Transylvania. Trust me, you'll need this. A work of certifiable genius.

[Van Helsing] If you don't say so yourself.

[Carl] I did say so myself. I'm a veritable cornucopia of talent.

[Van Helsing] Did you invent this?

[Carl] I've been working on that for 12 years. It's compressed magma from Mount Vesuvius with pure alkaline from the Gobi Desert. One of a kind.

[Van Helsing] What's it for?

[Carl] Oh, I don't know, but I'm sure it'll come in handy.

[Van Helsing] Twelve years and you don't know what it does?

[Carl] I didn't say that. I said I didn't know what it's for. What it does is to create a light source equal to the intensity of the sun.

[Van Helsing] This will come in handy how?

[Carl] Oh, I don't know. You could blind your enemies. Charbroil or hurt a charging wildebeest. Use your imagination.

[Van Helsing] I'm not, Carl. I'm gonna use yours. That's why you're coming with me.

[Carl] Oh, the hell be damned that I am.

[Van Helsing] You cursed. Not very well, mind you. But you're a monk. You shouldn't curse at all.

[Carl] Actually, I'm still just a friar. I can curse all I want. Damn it.

[Van Helsing] The cardinal has ordered you to keep me alive, for as long as possible.

[Carl] But I'm not a field man. [Whining] Van Helsing, I don't want to go to Transylvania.

[Low growl]

[Velkan] Come on. Dracula unleashed you for a reason.

[Werewolf] [Roaring]

[Velkan] Pull me up! Pull me up!

[Man] It's stuck! It's stuck! No, Anna, it will kill you!

[Ana] That's my brother up there.

[Velkan] Cut the rope! Cut it now!

[Ana] Velkan!

[Werewolf] [Roaring]

[Velkan] My gun! Find my gun!

[Ana] Find Velkan's gun. It has to be the silver bullets.

[Velkan] Anna, hurry, hurry!

[Werewolf] [Pounding on cage]

[Ana] Move!

[Velkan] Anna, look out!

[Werewolf] [Roaring]

[Ana] Run!

[Velkan] Anna!

[Water splashing]

[Ana] Velkan. God, help us.

[Carl] So what do you remember?

[Van Helsing] Not now, Carl.

[Carl] There must be something.

[Van Helsing] I remember fighting the Romans at Masada.

[Carl] That was in 73 A.D.

[Van Helsing] You asked.

[Carl] What are we doing here? Why is it so important to kill this Dracula anyway?

[Van Helsing] Because he's the son of the devil.

[Carl] I mean besides that.

[Van Helsing] Because if we kill him, anything bitten by him or created by him will also die.

[Carl] I mean besides that.

[White-haired man] Welcome to Transylvania.

[Van Helsing] [Sighs]

[Carl] Is it always like this?

[Van Helsing] Pretty much.

[Ana] You, turn around. Let me see your faces.

[Van Helsing] Why?

[Ana] Because we don't trust strangers.

[Mob leader] Strangers don't last long here. Five foot seven.

[Ana] Gentlemen, you will now be disarmed.

[Van Helsing] You can try.

[Ana] You refuse to obey our laws?

[Van Helsing] The laws of men mean little to me.

[Ana] Fine. Kill them.

[Van Helsing] I'm here to help you.

[Ana] I don't need any help.

[Van Helsing] Really?

[Ana] [Gasps]

[Screeching]

[Ana] Everybody inside!

[All shouting]

[Ana] Find the children!

[Carl] [Gasping]

[Dracula's Wives] [Hisses]

[Van Helsing] Stay here.

[Ana] You stay here. They're trying to kill me.

[Verona] Marishka, kill the stranger.

[Marishka] Love to.

[Ana] Run!

[Screeching]

[Van Helsing] Carl! Carl, it's not working!

[Carl] Try aiming at their hearts.

[Cow] [Lowing]

[Man] [Screaming]

[Dracula's Wives] [Sighs]

[Screeching stops]

[Ana] It's the sun.

[Carl] Oh.

[Water sloshing]

[Ana] [Gasps]

[Water dripping]

[Carl] Uh -- uh, Van Helsing?

[Marishka] Do you like to fly? [Cackling] [Screams]

[Ana] Whoa!

[Verona] [Screams]

[Marishka] [Hissing]

[Ana] [Groans]

[Marishka] [Screeches]

[Ana] [Gasps]

[Aleera] Hello, Anna. [Hisses]

[Ana] Nice to see you too, Aleera.

[VW] [Screeching]

[Van Helsing] [Grunts] [Groans]

[Dracula's Wives] [Hisses]

[Ana] Did I do something to you in a past life?

[Aleera] Don't play coy with me, Princess.

[Ana] [Gasps]

[Aleera] I know what lurks in your lusting heart.

[Ana] I hope you have a heart, Aleera, because someday I'm going to drive a stake through it.

[Marishka] [Low hiss]

[Carl] This should do the trick. Holy water!

[Verona] Stop your teasing, Marishka, and finish him!

[Marishka] Too bad. So sad.

[Carl] The church!

[Ana] [Gasps]

[Aleera] Thirty years old. Perfectly aged.

[Verona] Hello, Anna, my dear.

[Ana] [Gasps]

[Verona] The last of the Valerious.

[Marishka] [Roaring] [Screeching] [Laughing] [Gasps, screeches]

[Ana] [Moaning]

[Verona] I can feel fresh blood rushing through her veins.

[Carl] Here she comes!

[Aleera] I want first bite.

[Verona] [Hisses]

[Verona] [Aleera] [Shrieking] [Weakly screeching]

[Marishka] [Shuddering] [Screaming]

[Cow] [lowing]

[Van Helsing] [Panting]

[Woman] He killed a bride!

[Man] He killed Marishka!

[All shouting]

[Man] He killed a vampire!

[Carl] But isn't that a good thing?

[Mob Leader] Vampires only kill what they need to survive. One or two people a month. Now they will kill for revenge.

[All shouting in agreement]

[Carl] Are you always this popular?

[Carl] Pretty much.

[Mob Leader] So what name, my good sir, do I carve on your gravestone?

[Ana] His name is Van Helsing.

[Crowd murmuring]

[Ana] Your reputation precedes you.

[Van Helsing] Next time, stay close. You're no good to me dead.

[Ana] Well, I'll say this for you. You've got courage. He's the first one to kill a vampire in over a hundred years. I'd say that's earned him a drink.

[Glass cracking]

[Dracula] Marishka! [Sobbing] Why can't they just leave us alone? We never kill more than our fill and less than our share. Can they say the same? Did I not stress how important it was to be finished with Anna Valerious before she destroys what we are trying to create?

[Wives] [Whimpering]

[Verona] We lost Marishka.

[Aleera] Those vermin.

[Dracula] There, there, my darlings. Do not worry. I shall find another bride.

[Verona] What?

[Aleera] Do we mean so little to you?

[Verona] Have you no heart?

[Dracula] No, I have no heart! I feel no love, nor fear, nor joy, nor sorrow. I am hollow. And I will live forever.

[Aleera] Oh, my lord.

[Verona] It is not so bad.

[Dracula] I'm at war with the world and every living soul in it! But soon, the final battle will begin. I must go and find out who our new visitor is.

[Werewolf] [Roaring]

[Dracula] You will have to make a little aperitif out of him. We are much too close to success to be interrupted now.

[Aleera] No!

[Verona] The last experiment was a failure.

[Aleera] Please. Say you will not try again.

[Verona] My heart could not bear the sorrow if we fail again.

[Dracula] [Roaring]

[Wives] [Both whimpering]

[Dracula] Come. Do not fear me. Everybody else fears me. Not my brides.

[Werewolf] [Roaring]

[Dracula] Igor?

[Igor] Yes, master?

[Dracula] Why do you torment that thing so?

[Igor] It's what I do.

[Dracula] Remember, Igor. Do unto others.

[Igor] Before they do unto me, master.

[Dracula] Now go. All of you, to Castle Frankenstein!

[Aleera] Yes, yes, we will try again.

[Ana] So, how did you get here?

[Carl] We came by sea.

[Ana] Really? The sea? The Adriatic Sea?

[Carl] Yes.

[Van Helsing] So, where do I find Dracula?

[Ana] He used to live in this very house four centuries ago. No one knows where he lives now. My father would stare at that painting for hours looking for Dracula's lair. So, that's why you've come?

[Van Helsing] I can help you.

[Ana] [Scoffs] No one can help me.

[Van Helsing] I can try.

[Ana] You can die trying. All of my family has. I can handle this myself.

[Van Helsing] So I noticed.

[Ana] The vampires attacked in daylight. They never do that. I was unprepared. It won't happen again.

[Van Helsing] So, why did they attack in daylight?

[Ana] Clearly, they wanted to catch me off-guard. They seem almost desperate to finish off my family.

[Van Helsing] Why is that? Why now?

[Ana] You ask a lot of questions.

[Van Helsing] Hmm. Usually I ask only two -- what are we dealing with and how do I kill it?

[Ana] My father spent most of his life looking for answers year after year. Tearing through the tower, combing through the family archives.

[Van Helsing] Carl. The tower, start there.

[Carl] Oh, right.

[Van Helsing] The only way to save your family is to stay alive until Dracula is killed.

[Ana] And who will kill him if not me? Who will show courage if not me?

[Van Helsing] If you go out there alone, you'll be outmanned and out-positioned. And you can't see in the dark. In the morning we will hunt him. But we'll do it together.

[Ana] Some say you're a murderer, Mr. Van Helsing. Others say you're a holy man. Which is it?

[Van Helsing] [Sighs] It's a bit of both, I think.

[Ana] I promised you a drink.

[Van Helsing] Yes, you did.

[Ana] The bar is down the hall. Help yourself. As for me, I'm going to finish this once and for all.

[Van Helsing] I'm sorry you have to carry this burden alone.

[Ana] On the contrary, I would wish for it no other way.

[Van Helsing] And I'm sorry about your father and brother.

[Ana] I will see them again. We Transylvanians always look on the brighter side of death.

[Van Helsing] There's a brighter side of death?

[Ana] Yes. It's just harder to see.

[Van Helsing] I'm sorry about that too.

[Ana] [Moans]

[Rain falling]

[Thunder rumbling]

[Ana] Van Helsing!

[Clattering]

[Ana] Van Helsing!

[Door Slamming]

[Hinges squeaking]

[Ana] [Grunts]

[Wind whistling]

[Low growl]

[Ana] [Gasps]

[Low growl]

[Ana] [Shudders]

[Roaring]

[Ana] [Gasps] Velkan?

[Velkan] Anna.

[Ana] Oh, my God. You're alive.

[Velkan] No! Anna, I only have a moment.

[Ana] But, Velkan, there's a werewolf--

[Velkan] Never mind. Listen to me. I know Dracula's secret. He has a -- [Grunting]

[Ana] Velkan?

[Velkan] Please.

[Ana] No. No!

[Velkan] [Grunting] [Roaring] Anna. [Roaring]

[Ana] No.

[Van Helsing] Anna! Anna. Are you all right? Anna?

[Velkan] [Growling]

[Carl] [Sniffing] Why does it smell like wet dog in here?

[Van Helsing] Werewolf!

[Carl] Oh, right. You'll be needing silver bullets.

[Van Helsing] Well done.

[Clanging]

[Van Helsing] Who's hunting whom?

[Dog barking in distance]

[Mob leader] Nice night.

[Van Helsing] [Cocks gun]

[Mob leader] This is a bit tight for me, but for you ... it's a perfect fit. What a coincidence. I see the wolf man hasn't killed you yet.

[Van Helsing] Don't worry. He's getting to it. You don't seem too bothered by him.

[Mob Leader] Oh, I'm no threat to him. I'm just the one who cleans up after him, if you get my meaning.

[Van Helsing] It's a little late to be digging graves, isn't it?

[Mob Leader] Never too late to dig graves.

[Clanging]

[Mob Leader] You never know when you need a fresh one. Oh, sorry. It's just ... my nature. [Gasps] [Screaming]

[Werewolf] [Roaring]

[Ana] No!

[Werewolf] [Growling]

[Van Helsing] Move!

[Ana] No!

[Van Helsing] [Shouts] Why?

[Ana] You're choking me.

[Van Helsing] Give me a reason not to.

[Ana] I can't. If people knew -- [Grunts] [Panting]

[Van Helsing] He's not your brother anymore, Anna!

[Ana] You knew?

[Van Helsing] Yes.

[Ana] Before or after I stopped you from shooting him?

[Van Helsing] Before.

[Ana] And still you tried to kill him!

[Van Helsing] He's a werewolf. He's gonna kill people.

[Ana] He can't help it! It's not his fault!

[Van Helsing] I know, but he'll do it anyway!

[Ana] Do you understand forgiveness?

[Van Helsing] Yes. I ask for it often.

[Ana] They say Dracula has a cure. If there's a chance I can save my brother, I"m going after it.

[Van Helsing] No. I need to find Dracula.

[Ana] And I need to find my brother. He gave his life for me. He's the only family I have left. I despise Dracula more than you could ever imagine. He has taken everything from me, leaving me alone in this world.

[Van Helsing] [Groans] To have memories of those you loved and lost is perhaps harder than to have no memories at all. All right. We'll look for your brother.

[Thunderclap]

[Electrical humming]

[Dracula] Igor.

[Igor] Yes, master?

[Dracula] How long before we are ready?

[Igor] Soon, master. Very soon. Begone!

[Growls]

[Igor] It is difficult without the good doctor. But the dwerger, they are doing well, huh? Move!

[Dracula] Good.

[Ana] For me, this is all personal. It's all about family and honor. Why do you do it, this job of yours? What do you hope to get out of it?

[Van Helsing] I don't know. Maybe some self-realization.

[Ana] And what have you got out of it so far?

[Van Helsing] Nightmares.

[Ana] Werewolves only shed before the first full moon, before the curse has completely consumed them.

[Thunderclap]

[Van Helsing] What is this place?

[Ana] Castle Frankenstein. But it should be abandoned. I don't understand. The man who lived here was killed a year ago. Grave robber, among other things.

[Van Helsing] A year ago? It was just after that that your father went missing.

[Ana] Yes. He was looking for Dracula. He was on his way to the sea.

[Van Helsing] Hmm.

[Ana] I have never been to the sea. I'll bet it's beautiful.

[Werewolf] [Growling]

[Dracula] Werewolves are such a nuisance during their first full moon. So hard to control.

[Werewolf] [Roaring] [Moaning] [Grunting]

[Dracula] I send you on a simple errand to find out who our new visitor is, and you have to stop for a little chat with your sister.

[Velkan] Leave her out of this, Count. She doesn't know your secret, and I am soon to take it to my grave.

[Dracula] Don't wish for death so quickly. I plan for you to be quite useful.

[Velkan] I would rather die than help you.

[Dracula] Don't be boring. Everyone who says that dies. Besides, tonight after the final stroke of midnight, you will have no choice but to obey me.

[Jabbering]

[Dracula] Look familiar?

[Velkan] Father? [Shouting] No!

[Dracula] He proved useless. But I'm hoping with werewolf venom running through your veins you will be of greater benefit.

[Velkan] No! I may have failed to kill you, Count, but my sister will not. No. Never. Never!

[Thunderclap]

[Jabbering]

[Ana] Dwerger.

[Van Helsing] Dwer --

[Ana] Dracula's servants. Industrious, but extremely vicious. If you get the chance to kill one, do it, because they'll do worse to you.

[Van Helsing] Right.

[Jabbering continues] Velkan Valerious.

[Ana] They say they're using my brother in some sort of experiment. My brother is still battling the sickness within him. There's still hope.

[Van Helsing] Anna. There is no hope for your brother.

[Ana] Huh?

[Van Helsing] But we can still protect others by killing Dracula.

[Thunderclap]

[Dracula] Let us begin!

[Igor] [Muttering]

[Thunderclap]

[Van Helsing] You ever see these things before?

[Ana] No. What do you think they are?

[Van Helsing] Offspring.

[Ana] What?

[Van Helsing] A man with three gorgeous women for 400 years.

[Ana] Yes. Vampires are the walking dead. It only makes sense their children are born dead.

[Van Helsing] He's obviously trying to bring them to life. [Clears throat] Ladies first.

[Electrical sparking]

[Van Helsing] Dracula and his brides only kill one or two people a month. If he brings all these things to life --

[Thunderclaps]

[Velkan] [Grunting]

[Dracula] Throw the switches.

[Igor] Yes, master.

[Both Gasp]

[Ana] What are you doing?

[Van Helsing] I wanna see what we're up against.

[Ana] Groans]

[Van Helsing] So this is what you get when vampires mate.

[Ana] [Screams]

[Offspring] [Screeching]

[Van Helsing] Come on!

[All screeching]

[Verona] [Sighs]

[Soft screeching]

[Both women sigh]

[Dracula] They need to feed. Teach them how. Teach them!

[Both screaming]

[Dracula] And beg the devil that this time they stay alive.

[Screeching continues]

[Van Helsing] This is where I come in.

[Ana] No, wait! Now that I have your attention!

[Dracula] [Growls] [Shrieking]

[Carl] Yes, well, that's interesting.

[Wings flapping]

[Carl] Huh? My -- Well, that's not good. Must warn somebody.

[Wind howling]

[Dracula] I can tell the character of a man by the sound of his heartbeat. Usually when I approach, I can almost dance to the beat. Strange that yours is so steady.

[Thunderclap]

[Electrical crackling]

[Igor] Yes, yes, yes. We must keep the atmosphere electrified.

[Dwerger jabbering]

[Igor] Accelerate the generator. Power the dynamo. We are losing power. The human is insufficient.

[Velkan screaming]

[Ana] Velkan.

[Dogs barking in distance]

[Screeching in distance]

[Peasant woman] Oh, my God.

[People screaming]

[Man] No! No! No!

[Screaming]

[Verona] Feed, my darlings, feed!

[Thunderclap]

[Dracula] [Groaning] [Shuddering]

[Van Helsing] [Praying in Latin]

[Dracula] Hello, Gabriel.

[Dwerger jabbers]

[Shrieking]

[Screaming]

[Igor] We must not lose the master's progeny!

[Dracula] [Grunts] Is this your silver stake? How long has it been, three, 400 years? You don't remember, do you?

[Van Helsing] Exactly what is it I should be remembering?

[Dracula] You are the great Van Helsing. Trained by monks and mullahs from Tibet to Istanbul. Protected by Rome herself. But, like me, hunted by all others.

[Van Helsing] The Knights of the Holy Order know all about you. It's no surprise you would know about me.

[Dracula] Oh, yes, but it's much more than this. [Chuckling] We have such history, you and I, Gabriel. Have you ever wondered why you have such horrible nightmares, horrific scenes of ancient battles past?

[Van Helsing] How do you know me?

[Thunderclap]

[Ana] Velkan.

[Velkan] Anna? No, no, no, don't unstrap me. Don't unstrap me! No, you must not. No! No! No!

[Ana] Stop. Stop it. I'm getting you out of here. Velkan, it's all right. I'm taking you home.

[Velkan] No!

[Ana] [Whimpers]

[Velkan] [Growls] [Grunting loudly]

[Dracula] So, would you like me to refresh your memory a little, hmm? A few details from your sordid past. [Screaming]

[Crucifix bangs floor]

[Dracula] Perhaps that is a conversation for another time. Allow me ... to reintroduce myself. I am Count Vladislaus Dracula. Born 1422. Murdered 1462.

[Peasant woman] [Screaming] Help me! Help me!

[Screeches]

[Carl] [Peasant woman] [Both screaming]

[Verona] [Aleera] [Both shrieking]

[Velkan] [Yelling]

[Ana] [Gasps]

[Van Helsing] I think we've overstayed our welcome.

[Velkan] [Yelling] [Growling]

[Ana] [Van Helsing] [Both gasp] [Both yell]

[Velkan] [Howling]

[Chattering]

[Peasant woman] What happened?

[Carl] They just died.

[Peasant woman] How can I ever repay you?

[Carl] [Whispering, indistinct]

[Peasant woman] But you can't do that. You are a monk.

[Carl] Well, actually, I'm just a friar.

[Peasant woman] Mmm!

[Igor] I am sorry, master. We try and we try, but I fear we are not so smart as Dr. Frankenstein.

[Dracula] Truly. It would appear the good doctor took the key to life to his grave.

[Thunderclap]

[Dracula] Hunt them down. Kill them both.

[Ana] A silver stake? A crucifix? What, did you think we haven't tried everything before? We've shot him, stabbed him, clubbed him, sprayed him with holy water, staked him through the heart, and still he lives! Do you understand? No one knows how to kill Dracula.

[Van Helsing] Well, I could've used that information a little earlier.

[Ana] [Groans] Don't give me that look. You were right. I'm sorry. He's not my brother anymore.

[Thunder rumbling]

[Van Helsing] Mmm.

[Ana] Do you have any family, Mr. Van Helsing?

[Van Helsing] Uh, not sure. I hope to find out someday. It's what keeps me going.

[Ana] Here's to what keeps you going.

[Van Helsing] Absinthe. Strong stuff. [Chuckles]

[Ana] Don't let it touch your tongue. It'll knock you on your ass -- [Yells]

[Van Helsing] [Yells]

[Bird cawing]

[Carl] [Moaning] Vampires. Vampires!

[Peasant girl] [Moans]

[Carl] Aah! Oh. Mmm! Now I remember. Oh! "Even a man who is pure in heart and says his prayers by night may become a wolf when the wolf bane blooms, and the moon is shining bright, or cravin' others' blood when the sun goes down and his body takes to flight." [Gasping]

[Peasant woman] [Yells]

[Water dripping]

[Ana] [Moaning] [Groans]

[Van Helsing] Shh! There's something down here. And it's carnivorous. Whatever it is, it appears to be ... human. I'd say he's a size 17, around 360 pounds, eight and a half to nine feet tall, he has a bad gimp in his right leg, and, uh, three copper teeth.

[Ana] How do you know he has copper teeth?

[Van Helsing] Because he's standing right behind you. Move!

[Frankenstein] [Yells]

[Ana] Oh, my God! The Frankenstein monster!

[Frankenstein] "Monster"? Who's the monster here? [Yelling] I have done nothing wrong! And yet you and your kind all wish me dead!

[Electrical crackling]

[Frankenstein] [Yelling]

[Ana] What do you want? [Panting]

[Frankenstein] To exist. [Groaning]

[Van Helsing] No!

[Ana] We must kill it!

[Van Helsing] Wait.

[Frankenstein] If you value your lives and the lives of your kind, you will kill me!

[Van Helsing] No!

[Frankenstein] If Dracula finds me I am the key to my father's machine. The key to life -- life for Dracula's children.

[Van Helsing] He already awakened them last night.

[Frankenstein] [Chuckles] Those were from only one bride, from one single birthing. And they died as they did the last time he tried. Only with me can he give them lasting life.

[Van Helsing] There are more? More of those things?

[Frankenstein] Thousands. Thousands more.

[Van Helsing] No!

[Ana] You heard what he said!

[Van Helsing] My life, my -- my job, is to vanquish evil. I can -- I can sense evil. This thing, man, whatever it is, evil may have created it, may have left its mark on it, but evil does not rule it, so I cannot kill it.

[Ana] I can.

[Van Helsing] Not while I'm here! Anna, your family has spent 400 years trying to kill Dracula. Maybe this poor creature can help us find a way.

[Werewolf] [Rustling] [Growling]

[Ana] Oh, my God. He's seen us. Now they'll come for him, and neither you nor I will be able to stop them.

[Van Helsing] If I can get him to Rome, we can protect him there.

[Carl] And then the painting came alive. The two creatures attacked each other.

[Van Helsing] What does it mean?

[Carl] I don't know.

[Van Helsing] Now, listen, Carl, whatever you do, don't stare at him.

[Frankenstein] [Grunting]

[Carl] I'm staring at him. Is that a man?

[Van Helsing] Actually, it's seven men. Parts of them, anyway.

[Frankenstein] By exposing me, you have condemned me! Me and all of you humanity!

[Ana] Nothing is faster than Transylvanian horses, not even a werewolf. Anything else, you're on your own.

[Frankenstein] [Grunting] Let me go!

[Carl] Where are you going to go? I don't know if you've looked in the mirror lately, but you kind of stick out in a crowd.

[Van Helsing] [Shouting]

[Van Helsing] [Yells, grunts]

[Aleera] [Screeching]

[Aleera] [Verona] [Both gasping]

[Horses whinnying]

[Van Helsing] [Yelling]

[Aleera] [Verona] [Both screaming]

[Verona] We must not let the creature be destroyed!

[Aleera] Save him! Save the monster!

[Verona] [Gasps] Stakes! [Screeching] [Shrieking]

[Werewolf] [Growling]

[Ana] Carl!

[Carl] Oh, my God! What are you doing out here?

[Ana] Carl!

[Carl] Right! Right! Don't let go!

[Van Helsing] Carl! Carl!

[Frankenstein] I can help!

[Carl] You won't kill me?

[Frankenstein] Only if you don't hurry!

[Horses whinnying]

[Werewolf] [Growling]

[Carl] [Yells]

[Werewolf] [Roaring]

[Frankenstein] Gasps]

[Yelling]

[Ana] Jump!

[Werewolf] [Roaring]

[Ana] Velkan. Velkan.

[Velkan] Anna. Forgive me.

[Ana] I will see you again. You killed him. You killed him!

[Van Helsing] Now you know why they call me "murderer."

[Ana] Oh, my God. You've been bitten.

[Van Helsing] [Groans] Anna!

[Aleera] [Cackling]

[Van Helsing] Anna.

[Carl] Van Helsing!

[Aleera] [Clicking tongue] So much trouble to my master. So much trouble.

[Van Helsing] What do you want?

[Aleera] The master commands a trade. The monster ...

[Frankenstein] [Growling softly]

[Aleera] ... for the princess.

[Van Helsing] Somewhere public. Lots of people. A place where your master will be less inclined to expose his -- his other side.

[Aleera] Tomorrow night is Allhallows Eve. Here in Budapest, there is a wonderful masquerade ball. [Cackling]

[Carl] Are you all right?

[Van Helsing] No.

[Frankenstein] [Yells] He has been bitten -- bitten by a werewolf! Now you will become that which you have hunted so passionately.

[Van Helsing] I am sorry.

[Frankenstein] May others be as passionate in the hunting of you.

[Van Helsing] Well, they won't find him in here.

[Carl] I'm sure this is some sort of sin.

[Van Helsing] Don't worry. God will forgive us. We need to save Anna.

[Carl] You don't think the hat's a bit much, do you?

[Van Helsing] Carl, help me!

[Carl] Oh, right. How many Commandments can we break in one day? Anyway, according to the books, you won't turn into a werewolf until the rising of your first full moon. That's two nights from now. Even then, you'll still be able to fight Dracula's hold over you until the final stroke of midnight.

[Van Helsing] Sounds like I have nothing to worry about.

[Carl] Oh, my God. You should be terrified.

[Van Helsing] Thank you.

[Carl] Sorry. Well, we still have 48 hours to find a solution. You sure he can't get out of there?

[Van Helsing] Not without some help from the dead.

[Classical Music]

[Applause]

[Vocalizing]

[Ana] [Moans] [Muffled squeal] [Grunts]

[Dracula] How does it feel to be a puppet on my string?

[Ana] I won't let you trade me, Count.

[Dracula] I have no intention of trading you. And if I know Van Helsing, which I do, he's not planning on making a trade either. Neither of us has ever settled for half!

[Carl] Ah! There they are.

[Ana] You make my skin crawl.

[Dracula] This is not all I could do with your skin.

[Van Helsing] Carl, I need you to do something.

[Carl] I'm not gonna like this, am I?

[Dracula] Don't we make a lovely couple?

[Ana] Oh, my God! [Gasps]

[Dracula] I'm looking for a new bride, Anna. Someone strong and beautiful.

[Blows landing]

[Man groans]

[Dracula] One brief moment of pain ...

[Ana] [Grunts]

[Dracula] ... and we could be together forever.

[Van Helsing] [Yells] Whoa!

[Ana] You have no heartbeat.

[Dracula] Perhaps it just needs to be rekindled. [Shrieking]

[Van Helsing] Anna. Anna! Wake up!

[Ana] [Grunts]

[Dracula] Gabriel? Oh, Gabriel? Oh, Gabriel? Welcome to my summer palace.

[Igor] [Shouts, indistinct]

[Child] Master! Master! Look, master! Look!

[Igor] We have him, master. We have him!

[Frankenstein] [Yelling] You wretched undead! I shall have my revenge! Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I shall fear no evil! You are nothing but damned fools, and damned souls, and will burn in the flames of hell!

[Dracula] Now that everything is as it should be, ladies and gentlemen, I give to you ... Van Helsing!

[All screeching]

[Van Helsing] Come on! Come on!

[Dracula] Yes!

[Carl] Ah! Now I know what it's for. Now I know what it's for! Where are we going?

[Ana] [Van Helsing] Through that window!

[Carl] [Yelling]

[Van Helsing] Carl, you're a genius!

[Carl] [Gasping] A genius with access to unstable chemicals.

[Igor] [Shouts, indistinct] Say good-bye to your friend.

[Van Helsing] I'll find you! I'll get you back and set you free! I swear to God!

[Vampire cackling]

[Van Helsing] [Grunts] I must save him.

[Carl] No, you can't.

[Van Helsing] Why?

[Carl] I cabled Rome early to apprise them of our situation.

[Van Helsing] What did they say?

[Carl] Even if you somehow kill Dracula, Rome orders you to destroy Frankenstein as well.

[Van Helsing] He isn't evil.

[Carl] Yes, but they say he isn't human either.

[Van Helsing] Do they know him? Have they talked with him? Who are they to judge?

[Carl] They want you to destroy him so he can never be used to harm humanity.

[Van Helsing] And what of me? Did you tell them what I'm to become? Did they tell you how to kill me? The correct angle of the stake as it enters my heart?

[Ana] No!

[Van Helsing] The exact measure of silver in each bullet? Huh?

[Carl] No, I left you out.

[Van Helsing] [Growling] I'm sorry. It's starting.

[Thunder rumbling]

[Ana] They must've taken all the equipment to Dracula's lair.

[Van Helsing] Wherever that is. [Roaring]

[Carl] Look, there's still time. Dracula can't bring his children to life until the sun sets.

[Ana] The sun sets in two hours. We've been looking for him for more than 400 years.

[Carl] Yes, well, I wasn't around for those 400 years, now, was I?

[Van Helsing] All right, Carl, what have you learned?

[Carl] That Count Dracula was actually the son of Valerious the Elder -- the son of your ancestor.

[Ana] Everybody knows that. What else?

[Carl] Oh. All right. Well, according to this rubbing, it all started when Dracula was murdered.

[Van Helsing] Do you know who murdered him?

[Carl] No, no, no. This has some vague reference to the "left hand of God." And in 1462, when Dracula died, he made a covenant with the devil.

[Van Helsing] And was given a new life.

[Ana] But the only way he could sustain that life was by drinking the blood of others.

[Carl] Uh, excuse me. Are you going to let me tell the story?

[Ana] [Van Helsing] [Together] Sorry.

[Carl] Your ancestor, having sired this evil creature, went to Rome to seek forgiveness. That's when the bargain was made. He was to kill Dracula in return for eternal salvation of his entire family right down the line all the way to you.

[Ana] But he couldn't do it. As evil as Dracula was, my ancestor couldn't kill his own son.

[Carl] So he banished him to an icy fortress, sending him through a door from which there was no return.

[Ana] And then the devil gave him wings.

[Carl] Yes.

[Van Helsing] All right, so where is this door?

[Carl] I don't know. But when your ancestor couldn't kill his son, he left clues so that future generations might do it for him.

[Ana] It must be what my father was looking for in here, clues to the door's location.

[Van Helsing] The door. The door. Of course. You said your father spent hours staring at this painting trying to find Dracula's lair. I think you were right quite literally. I think this is the door. He just didn't know how to open it.

[Carl] Look, a Latin inscription. Maybe it works like that painting in the tower.

[Ana] If this were a door, my father would've opened it long ago.

[Carl] I can't finish the inscription. There's a piece missing.

[Van Helsing] Your father didn't have this.

[Ana] Where did you get that?

[Van Helsing] Carl, finish it.

[Carl] [Speaking Latin]

[Van Helsing] "In the name of God, open this door."

[Carl] A mirror.

[Ana] Dracula has no reflection in the mirror.

[Van Helsing] But why?

[Carl] Maybe -- maybe to Dracula, it's not a mirror at all.

[Van Helsing] It's cold, and it's snowing. See you on the other side.

[Ana] Be careful.

[Ana] Castle Dracula.

[Carl] [Whimpering] Do we have a plan? It doesn't have to be Wellington's at Waterloo, but some sort of plan would be nice.

[Van Helsing] We're going go in there and stop Dracula.

[Ana] And kill anything that gets in our way.

[Carl] Well, you let me know how that goes.

[Van Helsing] [Grunting]

[Carl] Well, as grateful as I am to be out of the cold, that doesn't see like a good thing.

[Van Helsing] [Growling] We'd better get moving.

[Carl] So, are all of those --

[Ana] Yes.

[Carl] And inside them are --

[Van Helsing] Yes.

[Igor] "Igor, do this. Igor, do that." How did you find -- It's impossible! Please -- please, don't kill me.

[Van Helsing] Why not?

[Igor] Well, I, um --

[Frankenstein] [Yelling] [Screeching]

[Igor] My master has awakened.

[Van Helsing] [Roaring]

[Frankenstein] There is a cure.

[Van Helsing] What?

[Frankenstein] Dracula. He has a cure to remove the curse of the werewolf. Go. Find the cure. Save yourself!

[Ana] Come on. You heard him. Let's find him.

[Van Helsing] Wait. Why does Dracula have a cure?

[Ana] I don't care.

[Van Helsing] I do. Why does he need one? Why?

[Carl] Because -- Because the only thing that can kill him is a werewolf. The painting -- that's what it meant.

[Ana] But Dracula has been using werewolves to do his bidding for centuries.

[Carl] Yes, but if one ever had the will to turn on him, he'd need a cure to remove the curse and make him human before it bit him.

[Van Helsing] You're going to take these two and lead them to the antidote.

[Igor] No, I'm not.

[Van Helsing] [Growling]

[Igor] Yes, I am.

[Carl] Here's the plan. When the bell begins to toll midnight, you'll be able to kill Dracula. We just need to find the cure and get it into you before the final stroke.

[Ana] Are you insane? What kind of plan is that?

[Van Helsing] If they even suspect you of misleading them, clip off one of his fingers.

[Ana] I'll clip off something.

[Igor] The tower over there, that's where it is.

[Van Helsing] And what about the other tower? Give me that!

[Igor] That is where we reassembled the laboratory. Would I lie to you?

[Van Helsing] Not if you wanted to live. Now, if I'm not cured by the 12th stroke of midnight --

[Carl] I don't think I could.

[Van Helsing] You must.

[Carl] Come on.

[Van Helsing] Anna.

[Ana] I don't like this plan.

[Van Helsing] We don't have a choice. Just don't get killed.

[Ana] You still don't understand. It doesn't matter what happens to me. We must save my family.

[Van Helsing] If you're late, run like hell. Don't be late.

[Ana] Now, go. Go. Go.

[Electrical crackling]

[Frankenstein] Get off me, you vermin! [Yelling]

[Dracula] What are you complaining about? This is why you were made -- to prove that God is not the only one who can create life. And now, you must give that life to my children. Up!

[Igor] There it is.

[Ana] I'll go first.

[Igor] [Groans]

[Carl] Aah!

[Ana] Carl!

[Igor] [Chuckles] Stay as long as you like. You try to get Igor. Igor get you!

[Jabbering]

[Ana] Go ahead. Grab it.

[Carl] [Nervous chuckle] You go ahead and grab it. If there's one thing I've learned, it's never to be the first one to stick your hand in a viscous material.

[Aleera] [Screeching] Did I scare you?

[Carl] No.

[Aleera] Then maybe I need to try ... a little harder. [Screaming]

[Carl] Viscous material. What did I tell you?

[Ana] Get it! Get it!

[Aleera] [Shrieking]

[Carl] Ooh! Hot! Hot!

[Ana] Come on! Come on! We've got to get the antidote to Van Helsing! Go! Go! Go!

[Aleera] Can't go until I say you can go!

[Ana] Keep running, Carl!

[Aleera] Come here! And I say you can go when you're dead! [Cackling]

[Carl] Oh, my God!

[Frankenstein] What are you doing? You must find the cure!

[Van Helsing] My friends are doing it for me.

[Frankenstein] Friends?

[Van Helsing] Yes. You want one? I can't unscrew the bolts. This is gonna hurt.

[Frankenstein] I am accustomed to pain.

[Van Helsing] Let's you know you're alive.

[Frankenstein] [Screaming]

[Dracula] Give me life! One more bolt, and my kind will live. [Screeching]

[Van Helsing] You're almost out, my friend. [Yelling]

[Frankenstein] [Yelling]

[Igor] [Screaming]

[Aleera] [Cackling]

[Frankenstein] Help! Help me!

[Carl] But you're supposed to die!

[Frankenstein] I want to live!

[Carl] All right!

[Ana] [Gasping]

[Aleera] Be happy in the knowledge that I shall weep over your dead body.

[Carl] Hang on! I'll swing you loose!

[Aleera] [Screeching]

[Dracula] You are too late, my friend. My children live!

[Van Helsing] Then the only way to kill them is to kill you.

[Dracula] Correct.

[Van Helsing] So be it.

[Clock tolling]

[Van Helsing] One! [Yelling]

[Dracula] No! This cannot be! [Laughing] We are both part of the same great game, Gabriel. But we need not find ourselves on opposite sides of the board.

[Werewolf] [Roaring]

[Dracula] [Screeching]

[Aleera] [Screeching]

[Frankenstein] Go! Go and help Van Helsing! Now!

[Ana] Thank you.

[Carl] Oh, my God! Anna, I need a little help!

[Aleera] [Screeching]

[Carl] Hurry!

[Ana] Throw it to me, Carl!

[Carl] Yes!

[Aleera] [Cackling]

[Dracula] You are being used, Gabriel, as was I. But I escaped. So can you.

[Ana] [Groans]

[Aleera] Anna, my love, it is your blood that shall keep me beautiful. What do you think of that? [Cackles, gasps]

[Ana] I think if you're going to kill someone, kill them. Don't stand there talking about it.

[Aleera] [Shrieking]

[Carl] [Gasps]

[Dracula] Don't you understand? We could be -- We could be friends! Partners! Brothers in arms! Did I mention that it was you who murdered me? It must be such a burden, such a curse, to be the left hand of God. All I want is life, Gabriel. The continuation of my kind, and perhaps the return of my ring. Don't be afraid, Gabriel. Don't be afraid. I shall give you back your life, your memory.

[Van Helsing] Some things are better left forgotten. [Yells] [Roaring]

[Dracula] [Shrieking]

[Werewolf] [Growling]

[Ana] Velkan! [Screams]

[Carl] God forgive me. She's dead.

[Werewolf] [Howling]

[Carl] [Praying in Latin]
