ANTONI GAUDI ART AND ARCHITECTURE |
|
"The Teresian convent built in 1889-94 is an example of the architect's work of that more severe style which shows the influence of his trip to Astorga in Castille, where he built the Bishop's Palace. The spirit of the Saint of Avila undoubtedly coloured Gaudi's approach when he was designing this building. Here he restricts himself to a simple brick interior with no bright colours nor oriental decorations such as those he used in his earlier works. The parabolic arches recall those of the Guell house; but here they are built of brick instead of stone." (James Johnson Sweeney and Josep Lluis Sert, "Antoni Gaudi")
