ANTONI GAUDI ART AND ARCHITECTURE

"Detail of bench on the terrace over the porch in the Parc Guell. The mosaic work on these benches is perhaps the fullest realization of this expression which Gaudi has left us. The actual patterns of the tiles are visible in many places and give a similar effect to that of the collages of the Cubist painters who employed torn fragments of wall paper as compositional elements. Gaudi was helped in these mosaics by the architect Josep Jupol, one of his most talented assistants who had also collaborated with him in designing some of his finest ironwork, notably that of the Mila house balconies." (James Johnson Sweeney and Josep Lluis Sert, "Antoni Gaudi")
