ANTONI GAUDI ART AND ARCHITECTURE

"Detail in bedroom of the Guell house, ironwork and stone work suggesting definite Art Nouveau influences. The ironwork shows a careful observation of floral motives which may denote the influence of William Morris and the English Pre-Raphaelites. Gaudi's patron Count Guell, the owner of this house, used to make frequent business trips to England. His library was rich in English publications of the day. As an amateur painter he had decorated several of the walls of his house in Comillas in Northern Spain with floral patterns vaguely in the spirit of Morris and his associates." (James Johnson Sweeney and Josep Lluis Sert, "Antoni Gaudi")
