Letter home from the ill-fated trip to Japan, 1967.  Text reads: "The thing on my back is not a sleeping bag; it is an obi -- a sort of decorative-type, very expensive heaping together of material, forming an inscrutable and extremely uncomfortable design.  It is ancient Japanese custom to make women as uncomfortable as possible."
