TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Gov. Jeb Bush said his brother won Florida because he's been "darn good" to the state.

The governor said President George W. Bush offered a lot of support to Florida after the hurricanes this year.

He said he believes residents also remember that the president eliminated prospects for oil drilling off the coast of Florida and gave them tax relief.

The governor said he's proud of his brother.

"I think there's a belief in our state that it was inappropriate to change leaders during a time of crisis, a time of war..." and that Senator John Kerry "couldn't quite get there."

Gov. Bush also said a few other factors also helped his brother win.

He said Republicans registered more new voters than Democrats over the last four years, the president did well among independent and Hispanic voters and the energy level among Bush supporters was higher than the governor had ever seen.

The governor thanked Kerry for his decision to concede earlier Wednesday.

"I really appreciate the fact that Senator Kerry has conceded, that my brother is going to be re-elected as president of the United States. I cannot tell you how proud I am of him as well," Bush said.
