[After his cancer operation in Moscow, Rivera returned to Mexico and spent several months recuperating in the house of a friend, Dolores Olmedo, at Acapulco on the Pacific coast, where on the terrace with its view of Acapulco Bay he painted a number of small-size oils of sunsets. These works, in which he experiments with colour, are among his last paintings.
