directed by Jonathan Demme, Starring Jean Leopold Dominique - 1930-2000, and Michele Montas "After one month of silence, Radio Haiti resumes broadcasting. 'It's 7 AM. They try everything to gnaw at us, to bury us, to electrocute us, to drown us, to drain us. It's been going on for more than 50 years ... is there a reason for it to stop? Yes! One: Things must change in Haiti. For freedom of the press, Radio Haiti: 'At the service of the Haitian people.' 1330 AM,, 105 FM.' 'Good morning, Jean. Good morning to you all. One lead story, a news development at 'Inter-Actualities' this morning, this day, May 3rd, International Day of Freedom of the Press. Jean Leopold Dominique, Independent journalist, known for his detailed, incisive analysis of our political and social life, is not dead. Rumors of his assassination on April 3rd by bullets of a gunman commissioned by rich and powerful individuals were found to be false. It was said in November of 1980, Jean was armed with a magic spell hidden in his pipe which allowed him to escape attacks by the military and the Macoutes of Duvalier. According to a well informed source who will remain anonymous, this disappearing spell has again been activated, because Jean Dominique has been spotted alive in Leogane, dressed in his old jeans, his shoes made of cloth, and his black leather cap. Since April 3rd, credible witnesses report seeing him in discussion about the increasing price of fertilizer in the Artibonite Valley as he stuffed his pipe in his unique style, leaving no doubt about his identity. He is with us this morning in our studios. Without a doubt, this ironic tone is how Jean would describe this terrible season that is still upon us. I said 'us" because our descent into this hell of orchestrated violence, this state of mediocrity accompanied by hate, is shared by thousands of men and women of all social background whose lives were devastated on April 3, 2000. And like us, his family, his friends, his co-workers, his partners in the struggle, his partners in hope, we too were riddled with bullets on April 3rd. That's why I won't say thanks today to all those who manifested their moving solidarity toward us. Fire radiated within Jean every day of our lives at Radio Haiti. Like Prometheus, Jean had stolen that fire from gods, gods, paradoxically, in whom Jean never believed. Yes, Jean Leopold Dominique, free man, citizen of this torn land, is alive. Good morning, Jean.'" The Agronomist -- Screencap Gallery Table of Contents:
